Fare and Fare Media Questions

Is there a grace period on expired 10-Ride Ticketbooks or Monthly Passes and can they be exchanged?
Monthly passes are issued for the calendar month and there is no grace period on any of our pass products.  However, FareSaver coupons can be exchanged within 6 months of their expiration at Civic Center Station (Broadway and 16th), Market Street Station (Market and 16th), or Boulder Transit Center (Walnut and 14th).

Do I need exact change to pay my fare?
Yes, riders must pay in exact change as drivers do not carry change. As a better alternative to carrying cash, purchase a 10-Ride Ticketbook or Monthly Pass.

How do I know which zone monthly passes I need for my trip?
The RTD Light Rail system is divided into four fare zones. Light rail fares and passes are determined by the number of zones a passenger travels in for each one-way trip. If a passenger travels in one-two adjacent zones, it is considered local travel and is a local fare or monthly pass. Three-zone adjacent travel is an express fare/monthly pass and four-zone travel is a regional fare/monthly pass. The first step is to determine the primary commute or travel;  where  a trip begins and where the trip ends. While looking at a light rail map, determine how many zones are traveled in for a one-way trip. Those zones will indicate the type of pass to purchase. For example: AB , BC or CD are local passes since it is one-two adjacent zones. ABC or BCD are express passes; three-zone travel and ABCD equals a regional pass; four-zone travel.

Are there any plans for the ticket vending machines (TVM) to accept credit cards?
No, not at this time.

Do members of the Military ride RTD for free?
Yes, active duty members of the U.S. military currently ride for free on all RTD services.
