Transfer from bus to bus
Need to change buses along the way in order to reach your destination?
Here's how:
- After you pay a cash fare on the first bus, ask the driver for a
"transfer"-- a paper receipt that allow you to get on the
second bus. (Do this when you pay your fare. Drivers issue transfers
only at the time of payment.) Transfers are valid for one hour from
the time your first bus arrives at the end of the line; check your transfer
for the expiration time
- When you board the second bus, give the driver your transfer. If you
expect to transfer to a third bus or train, ask the driver to return
your transfer after it has been inspected.
- If you are boarding the same type of bus (Local to Local, for instance),
you do not have to pay an additional fare.
- If you are boarding a different type of bus (Local to Express, for
example), you may use your transfer as a credit toward the more expensive
fare.
- If your bus is running behind schedule and you think you may miss
your transfer bus, let the driver know five or 10 minutes before your
scheduled arrival time. Your bus driver can radio ahead and ask the
connecting bus to wait for you up to three minutes.
*Note: Transfers cannot be used for a return trip on the same
route. They can be used to make
a quick stopover within the time indicated on the transfer.
Transferring between Light
Rail and the bus
- When transferring from Light Rail to a bus, deposit your validated
light rail ticket into the fare box. If you need a transfer, ask the
bus driver for one at this time.
- When transferring from bus to Light Rail, ask the bus driver for a
transfer when you board the bus and keep it with you aboard the light
rail train as proof of payment.
- The easiest transfer is with a pass. Denver Local, Express and Regional
passes are valid on Light Rail Boulder Local passes are valid in off-peak
hours on Light Rail.
How to read
a transfer

| A |
In the top left corner the driver will punch the type
of service thetransfer was issued from: CIR (Circulator), LOC (Local),
EXP (Express),or REG (Regional) depending on what route he is operating.
|
| B |
On the right hand side, he will punch the month in which the transfer
was issued and the date is actually printed on the front.
|
| C |
The appropriate numbers or letters to designate the route the transfer
was issued from.
|
| D |
Along the right hand side below the month, the driver can mark the
transfer as an upgraded fare. For example, you may get a transfer
from a Local route, but want to pay an Express fare for your connecting
route. In this case, the driver would punch the box indicating you
had paid an Express fare.
|
| E |
There is a box marked CPN to be punched when the passenger pays
the fare with a Free Ride coupon.
|
| F |
The box marked Next Day is for routes that run past midnight when
the next available bus to transfer to will actually be on the following
day.
|
| G |
The box marked TB is to be used for Turn Back transfers. Normally,
transfers are not valid on the same route in the opposite direction,
but customers who wish to take the same route and go to a different
leg of the route can request a Turn Back transfer for this purpose.

| H |
For DIA routes, the driver would punch DIA I, II, III, or IV depending
on your fare and travel distance.
