October 2012: Michelle Hahn

Each month, RTD encourages passengers to nominate a bus driver or light rail operator who goes above and beyond to make their experience memorable. This month’s winning nomination goes to Route DD bus driver, Michelle Hahn. The DD travels north and south from the Colorado Station to the Boulder Transit Center.

Her nomination was submitted by Billy Traywick, who was impressed with Michelle’s professional and caring attitude.

"I was running to catch the DD at Colorado and Alameda when I tripped and landed flat on the right side of my face. Your driver, Michelle Hahn, could not have been more professional and caring. She absolutely went out of her way and above the call of duty to render first aid and assist me getting on the bus. Later, during a visit to the doctor and what turned out to be a broken foot and seven stitches to my face, the doctor complemented the driver who applied the bandage as it was done perfectly to keep the wound closed. I get a great deal of satisfaction using my Express Pass on my daily commute between Broomfield and Denver with what I consider the best transportation company in the U.S., and I’ve lived in New York City! Your system makes me more proud now that I’ve had the experience of directly finding out just how good (no excellent) your drivers are. I wish I had the power of giving Ms. Hahn an Employee of the Month award, a promotion, or a better route but that will be up to you. Thanks again for having professional personnel; they truly make your transportation system what it is – the best! "

After receiving the commendation from Billy, we wanted to know more about Michelle, and she graciously agreed to answer a few of our questions.

How long have you worked for RTD and have you always been a Bus Driver?
I’ve worked for RTD as a driver for 2 years

What were you in a previous life?
A nurse

What do you like best about your job?
The people I meet everyday

If you could listen to music while working, what type?
Alternative rock

If you could deck out your train, what style?
Beautiful mystical images with dragons

If you could change your uniform color, what color or does brown/gray go with your eyes?
A cotton uniform with bright colors would be nice

What type of service would you drive if given the choice and/or favorite service to drive or operate?
SeniorRide

What are your favorite hobbies or activities?
I love sewing and canning fruit
