Yale Avenue bridge opens early
RTD’s FasTracks program celebrated a milestone on the I‑225 Rail Line with the reopening of the Yale Avenue bridge two months ahead of schedule. As part of the light rail extension and I‑225 widening project, completion of the bridge will offer residents and motorist easy access to local businesses in the area. And later, when the entire rail line extension project is complete, the bridge will greatly benefit commuters by providing convenient connections to the Iliff light rail station and Park‑n‑Ride.
Construction crews will now focus on the remainder of the I‑225 Rail Line, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016. The extended light rail will connect the Nine Mile Station to the East Rail Line at I‑70 and Peoria, and offer 10.5‑miles of light rail and eight stations. Watch for more updates on the I-225 Rail Line.
RTD receives Denver Business Journal’s industry leader award
RTD was recently awarded this year’s Denver Business Journal Power Book award for leadership in construction and engineering. The award, which is decided by the Denver Business Journal’s editorial department, takes an in-depth look at businesses across 14 industries that have been consistently recognized for their business accomplishments.
We’ve celebrated several newsworthy achievements this past year, but the most notable have been the unsolicited proposal from Kiewit Infrastructure to complete the I‑225 light rail extension from Nine Mile Station to I‑70 and Peoria, and the announcement of the April 2013 opening of the West Rail Line, eight months ahead of schedule. We’re proud of the many accomplishments we’ve made throughout the District, and we’re honored to be recognized.

Celebrate the holidays with downtown Denver events
The holiday season is the best time of the year to enjoy all that downtown Denver has to offer. With plenty of places to dine, listen to music, catch a movie, take a carriage ride or shop for that perfect gift, downtown has it all.
And to kick off the holiday season, RTD and the LoDo District will host a special celebration as part of Downtown Denver’s Grand Illumination event on November 23. Starting at 6 p.m. on 17th Street between Wynkoop and Wazee, you and your family can enjoy festive music, crafts, delicious treats, a visit from Dinger Claus, and much more. Or travel to the City and County building for the 9News Light the Lights event, where performances will entertain the crowd, ending with a countdown to the lighting ceremony. As part of the festivities, downtown will be adorned with nearly 600,000 lights from Union Station to the City and County building, and the 16th Street Mall will be transformed into an enchanting holiday promenade.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season with the 9News Parade of Lights on Friday, November 30 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 1 at 6:00 p.m. This annual event is fun for the whole family and will be full of magical decorations, performing arts, dazzling displays, and a visit from Santa.
Light rail service will be affected 30 minutes prior to the start of the parade with no D, F and H Line service between the Theatre District/Convention Center and 18th/California stations. The free MallRide will offer service from Denver Union Station to Market Street Station during parade times, and will resume with regular service after the parade. Find out how get there on bus and light rail.
RTD honors U.S. military with free rides
Veteran’s Day is November 11, when we recognize the sacrifices of all U.S. military veterans for their loyal service to our country. As we celebrate those who have served our country, RTD also wants to honor our active duty U.S. military personnel by offering them free rides on any RTD service.
To ride free, active duty military personnel must either wear the appropriate Class A or Class B uniforms at the time of boarding or present to the driver or fare inspector an active duty military ID card with the words “Geneva Convention Identification Card” on the bottom. It’s just our small way of saying thank you.
Tip of the month
Daylight savings ends on November 4, 2012, when we set our clocks back one hour. As the days grow shorter and you find yourself traveling by bus after dark, you can take advantage of RTD’s Night Stop program. Between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. you can ask your bus driver to drop you off at any safe location along the route, whether it is a regular stop or closer to where you need to go. Your safety is important to us and this service is provided to help riders feel more secure when traveling after dark.
Operator of the month, Angela Williams
Each month, RTD encourages passengers to nominate a bus driver or light rail operator who goes above and beyond to make their experience memorable. This month’s winning nomination goes to SkyRide AS bus driver, Angela Williams. The AS travels east and west from the Stapleton Park‑n‑Ride to Denver International Airport. Her nomination was submitted by Randi Rycroft, who was impressed with Angela’s helpful and friendly attitude. Read more about Angela.
