David Ruchman was appointed to the RTD Board in October 2000 to represent District M, which includes Lakewood, Golden, and Wheat Ridge in Central Jefferson County.  He won re-election in 2004.

Director Ruchman is an attorney who received his BA from Johns Hopkins University in 1970 and his MA from Stanford University, where he also did advanced graduate work in American History.  He received his JD from the University of Denver in 1996 and was honored with three American Jurisprudence awards while studying law there.  In 2007, he retired from his position as a Hearing Officer at the Colorado Department of Revenue.

Recently, Director Ruchman has served on the boards of Helping Hearts and Hands, (a human service outreach program for Denver and Jefferson Counties), and during the 1990s on the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association Foundation.  In Lakewood, he serves as Vice-President of Transit West, and earlier served on the Alameda Overlay Zone Committee.  He helped found and served as the first President of the Beverly Heights Neighborhood Association.  He served the state for almost a decade on the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board.  Earlier, in Colorado Springs, he served on that city’s Planning Commission, as Vice-Chair of the Comprehensive Plan Revision Task Force, and as Vice-Chair of the El Paso County Parks Board.  In the area of municipal affairs, he managed Colorado Springs’ Vice Mayor Leon Young’s campaign in 1987 and in 1997, managed Lakewood City Councilman Harold Scatterday’s campaign; both won.

Director Ruchman is married to Michelle Dahlin, a Vice President of the University of Colorado.
