John Tayer joined the RTD Board in 2007 with over 14 years of experience working in the transportation policy arena, through both employment and volunteer positions.
Director Tayer first began work on efforts to enhance the regional transportation system in 1992 as the Intergovernmental Affairs Coordinator, and later Policy Director, in the Boulder City Manager’s Office. In 1999, after leaving the City Manager’s Office, Director Tayer joined Boulder’s Transportation Advisory Board (TAB). He served on TAB for five years, four years as Board Chair. Director Tayer also has been Chair of the Boulder East Transportation Management Organization since its inception back in 2004 and served on the City of Boulder Transportation Master Plan Task Force.
Director Tayer currently is employed as the Public Affairs Manager for Roche Colorado, a pharmaceutical company in Boulder. In this position, he is the first point of contact for citizen and media inquiries regarding Roche Colorado activities and is the liaison to the company’s Community Advisory Panel. Director Tayer also sits on a number of local community boards, including the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, Avista Hospital, and the local non-profit recycling agency, Eco-Cycle.
A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, Director Tayer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Colorado. Director Tayer currently resides in Boulder's Table Mesa neighborhood with his wife Molly and two very rambunctious cats.
