access-a-Ride is RTD's year-round paratransit service available throughout specially designated areas of Arapahoe, Adams, Denver, Boulder and Jefferson counties. access-a-Ride provides curb-to-curb transportation to passengers who are unable to use our regular buses, and qualify for certification under the guidelines established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADD) of 1990.

Who is eligible for access-a-Ride service?

Eligibility to the program is open to persons in the following three general categories:

  1. Persons unable to board, ride or exit a wheelchair lift-equipped bus.
  2. Persons who have no access to a RTD bus with a wheelchair lift.
  3. Persons whose disability doesn't allow them to travel to and from the nearest bus stop.

How much does access-a-Ride cost?

Fares for access-a-Ride passengers are twice the cost of a similar trip on a RTD bus. Please have exact fare, drivers do not carry change. No personal checks accepted. Peak hours are from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. All other times are off-peak.

Denver International Airport Service

Special discount fares to DIA are available though RTD's skyRide bus service. In addition to skyRide, access-a-Ride service to DIA is available for $16.00 each way. For more information, call RTD's access-a-Ride office at 303.299.2960.

How do you become qualified for access-a-Ride Service?

To find out if you qualify for this special service, please call RTD at 303.299.2960 or TTY 303.299.2980 to receive information and a pre-application packet. Our office is open from 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

The certification process will include a completed pre-application and a no-cost functional cognitive and / or physical assessment. Physician statement is required but is not a determining factor.

For those that cannot get to the assessment location, transportation can be arranged and will be free of charge.

Where can you go on access-a-Ride?

access-a-Ride serves designated areas in Denver, Boulder, Arapahoe, Adms, and Jefferson counties. All trips must have an origin and desination within 3/4 of a mile of an RTD non-commuter fixed-route.

How does access-a-Ride work?

ID cardPassengers who qualify for access-a-Ride will be issued a photo ID card and a user's guide explaining how the program works. Your ID card entitles you to curb-to-curb transportation anywhere within the access-a-ride service area.
Your trip must take place during the same days and hours of regular RTD bus service. ID cards need to be shown to the driver upon boarding, and exact change is required.

To make reservations

Reservation can be made up to 7 days in advance. Upon special request, door-to-door service is also available.
