First and Last Mile Strategic Plan

RTD’s First and Last Mile Strategic Plan aims to address the issue of transit accessibility by examining existing conditions, analyzing RTD station accessibility goals and developing a list of policy and program recommendations with an implementation plan to achieve them.

Given that broad scope of accessibility to the RTD system of rail and bus services, the plan will require creative thinking and partnerships with local jurisdictions, non-profits and businesses and organizations whose interests align with the goals and eventual recommendations of the plan.

What is the first and last mile?

The way of getting to your start and end destinations using public transit services.

What is the purpose of the First and Last Mile Strategic Plan?

The primary purpose of this plan is to address the issue of transit accessibility and connectivity by identifying innovative strategies that:

  • Analyze multimodal transportation to RTD facilities
  • Improve connectivity to RTD services
  • Connect you to your end destination with ease

The study will include examining existing conditions, determining where the major connectivity gaps are located and establishing RTD station accessibility goals. It will also examine the relationship between transit and the evolving Mobility on Demand or Transportation as a Service sector and its potential to improve access to stations.

Does my input matter?

YES! Community and stakeholder input is absolutely critical to the success of this plan. RTD’s goal is to identify our rider’s present and future access to transit needs that will help us determine the best recommendations for this plan.

Given the broad scope of accessibility to the RTD system of rail and bus services, the plan will require partnerships with the community, local jurisdictions, non-profits, and other organizations whose interests align with the goals and eventual recommendations of the plan.

We encourage our constituents to share your constructive feedback on what you believe will improve your first and last mile. You can do so by submitting your questions or comments in the box on the top right. We will be providing other avenues to submit comments during the course of the project.

What will be the project results?

Once RTD takes into consideration public and stakeholder feedback and study data results, a list of the top recommendations will be developed and accompanied by an implementation plan to achieve them. This is the first step to more advance transit accessibility and connectivity.
