General Rules for Use
Each passenger using a MyRide™ card within the Regional Transportation District (RTD) system must have his or her own individual card.
When using a MyRide™ card to ride within the RTD system, cardholders must present their MyRide™ card if requested by an RTD transit employee, fare inspector, or police officer.
Bus: Cardholders must tap their MyRide™ card on the bus validator every time they board a bus, even when transferring. By default the validator is set to the highest service level provided by the route (Local, Regional, or Airport). Cardholders who want to take a shorter trip on a regional bus or SkyRide bus must tell the operator to change the fare level before tapping the card. Failure to tap the MyRide™ card is considered fare evasion and is subject to enforcement actions according to RTD policy and Colorado State laws.
Train: Cardholders who begin their trip on train must ensure that the appropriate fare level to their final destination is selected on the validator at a train station or train platform and tap the card before boarding the train. Failure to tap the MyRide™ card is considered fare evasion and is subject to enforcement actions according to RTD policy and Colorado State laws.
MyRide™ Card Balance
If a MyRide™ card has an insufficient balance to pay for the selected trip, the cardholder must pay the full cost of the fare through another payment method. No partial payments will be accepted.
Cardholders can purchase and load value to their MyRide™ card at RTD sales outlets, at select King Soopers and Safeway stores, and through the RTD website. The minimum amount that must be loaded onto a new card is $5. The minimum amount for reloading value through the RTD website is $5 but there is no minimum reload amount at RTD sales outlets. The maximum amount of value that can be stored on a card is $200. RTD may change the minimum and maximum amounts at any time.
RTD's master transaction record of the MyRide™ card value is the only record RTD shall accept to establish the stored value balance on any given MyRide™ card. Adjustments, fare usage, and reloads through the RTD website may not be reflected on the card balance and transaction record for up to 72 hours due to data processing time requirements. Purchases and reloads at RTD sales outlets are available for travel immediately.
Discount fares apply to seniors 65+, individuals with disabilities, and Medicare recipients. Youth discount fares apply to youth ages 6-19 (up to three children ages 5 and younger ride free with a fare-paying adult). LiVE discount fares are eligibile for low-income individuals who are enrolled in the RTD LiVE Program. Proof of eligibility is required for all passengers using discounted fare products. Active duty members of the U.S. military ride for free on all RTD services.
Only eligible individuals may use a discounted MyRide™ card. The cardholder must be able to present proof of eligibility to the bus operator when boarding a bus, and to a fare inspector on train vehicles. Unauthorized use of discounted fare programs is a form of fare evasion and will be enforced according to RTD policy and Colorado state laws. Learn more about discounted fares.
Registration and Replacement of Lost, Stolen, Damaged and Defective Cards
MyRide™ cardholders have the option of registering their card on the RTD website. This registration protects the balance of the card in the event that the card is lost, stolen, or damaged.
If a registered MyRide™ card is lost, stolen, or physically damaged, the MyRide™ card will be deactivated when the customer notifies RTD at an RTD sales outlet, through the RTD website, or by contacting RTD Customer Care. The remaining balance on the card as of the time of the notification will be transferred from the lost/stolen/damaged card to a new card. RTD will provide the new card at an RTD sales outlet or through the mail.
If a MyRide™ card ceases to function and is determined by RTD to have no sign of physical damage, the card will be considered to be defective. Upon RTD’s inspection of the non-functioning card and verification by RTD of the absence of physical damage, RTD will provide a replacement MyRide™ card free of charge at any RTD sales outlet.
The remaining balance for a lost, stolen, damaged, or defective card will be calculated as of the date and time the cardholder reported the issue.
RTD reserves the right to suspend a cardholder’s MyRide card if stored value is purchased with insufficient funds until full payment is received.
Charges, Refunds and Deactivation
RTD reserves the right to charge for MyRide™ cards, including replacement cards, other than defective cards replaced by RTD.
Refunds are not permitted.
If the card is not used for transit or reloaded for five years, the card will be deactivated, and the remaining balance shall be transferred to the State of Colorado according to the Colorado Unclaimed Property Act.
Care of Your Card
The MyRide™ card is impervious to moisture but it can be damaged and rendered inoperable by physical abuse. Do not bend, spindle, cut, drill, hole-punch, or otherwise mutilate the card.
MyRide™ cardholders must not alter or interfere with the graphics or data of the MyRide™ card and shall take all reasonable measures and care to ensure that the graphics and MyRide™ card data are not interfered or tampered with.
Additional Terms and Conditions
MyRide™ and associated designs and logos are trademarks of RTD and may not be used for commercial purposes without RTD’s express written authorization.
All fares, including promotional and discount fares, are subject to change, review, or withdrawal by RTD at any time.
No warranty is given as to the usability of a card that is purchased from any entity other than RTD, and such card may not be replaced or have value transferred/added.
The cardholder releases RTD from all loss, damage, or injury whatsoever, known or unknown, arising out of or in any manner connected with the use or performance of the MyRide™ card. Neither RTD, its officers, employees, or agents will have any obligation or liability with respect to the cardholder’s use or the performance of the MyRide™ card. The Cardholder's sole and exclusive remedy from RTD will be the replacement of any defective card(s). The cardholder agrees to indemnify, protect, and hold harmless the RTD, its officers, employees, and its agents from any and all liability for any loss, damage, or injury to persons or property arising from or related to the MyRide™ card and/or the Terms and Conditions listed above.
Failure to comply with any of these terms and conditions may result in enforcement actions according to RTD policy and Colorado State laws.
RTD may amend these terms and conditions at any time. The amended terms and conditions will be posted on the RTD website www.rtd-denver.com and shall be effective upon such posting to that website.
