Looking to serve your community? RTD’s next career fair is Feb. 27-March 1
If you are seeking a career, not just a job, RTD invites you to attend a three-day career fair at its Boulder operating division next week to learn about available positions across the agency.
RTD Bus Operations is hosting the hiring event, which runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at 1707 Exposition Drive, Boulder. Attendees can tour the facility and speak with bus operators, managers and supervisors. Recruiters from RTD’s Human Resources division will be available to provide information about positions throughout RTD. Members of RTD Transit Police will be on hand to discuss career opportunities with the growing department, with hiring underway for new and lateral officers to better serve the region’s communities. Many agency positions are eligible for a $4,000 signing bonus. Applications will be accepted on site.
“What sets RTD apart is its commitment to employee growth and its investment in its people,” said Chris Deines, General Superintendent of Transportation. “The agency provides employees with work that makes a meaningful difference to the public and supports them in their career journeys. This event enables job-seekers to learn firsthand about opportunities they may not have known existed. If you are not sure where your skills and interests might be a good match, come talk to us. We will find a place for you.”
If part-time work is of interest, the agency is hiring bus operators who can commit at least 15 hours a week, Deines noted. No prior experience is necessary, and new bus operators will be paid to complete the nine weeks of training required to obtain the Commercial Driver License needed to hold this position. For those interested, opportunities are also available to earn overtime pay.
The starting hourly wage for bus operators is $24.96. As of January, RTD is in need of 182 bus operators out of 952 budgeted positions, a vacancy rate of about 19%. Within bus maintenance, RTD has 80 openings out of 367 budgeted positions, a vacancy rate of about 22%. These positions include general repair mechanics, which start at $31.46 an hour; and body shop technicians, with a starting hourly wage of $29.10. All of these important frontline positions carry a signing bonus.
