RTD earns First Place Awards in Best Marketing and Communications to Support Ridership, Best Marketing and Communications to Highlight Transit Needs Campaigns

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently announced the winners for its 2022 AdWheel Awards. Recognition is awarded to transit agencies and business members for outstanding marketing and communication efforts. The competition also allows agencies to share best practices and to raise awareness of the value of marketing professionals within the public transportation industry. In 2022, RTD earned First Place for its “Move Your City” and “Take a Trip” campaigns.

One of the main reasons individuals work for RTD is because they believe and value the agency mission of “moving people”—contributing to the greater good of the community. To fill vacant positions, RTD created two 0:15 videos highlighting the “day in the life” of operators and mechanics. Digital and social media advertisements encouraged candidates to become a part of something bigger—a common mission to “Move Your City” through a rewarding career at RTD.  

Ridership declined significantly during the coronavirus pandemic, so RTD developed the “Take a Trip” campaign to begin to build back ridership. Focusing on a variety of trips, routes and destinations, as well as safety and cleaning protocols, RTD educated current and future customers on the access transit provides to the places they want and need to go. Digital ads and social media posts encouraged customers to travel by train on game day, take the bus to the museum or zoo and other local spots within the district.
