RTD Officials to Conduct Safety Drill for Southeast Rail Extension in Lone Tree

Emergency preparedness drill to take place on Saturday, March 23 near Sky Ridge Medical Center

DENVER (Mar. 21, 2019) – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) and local emergency services will conduct an emergency preparedness drill for the Southeast Rail Extension on Saturday, March 23, between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. The drill will take place on RTD’s light rail bridge over I-25, which is near Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree.

The drill will be a simulated exercise to allow local agencies to coordinate communications and response strategies in the event of an actual emergency along the new extension of the E, F and R light rail lines in Lone Tree.

The drill scenario will simulate evacuation of passengers due to a train vs. pedestrian crash on the I-25 light rail bridge. During the exercise, emergency equipment may be visible on the light rail tracks and station access road between Sky Ridge and Lone Tree City Center stations. The drill is not expected to impact traffic in the area.

On January 25, RTD celebrated a substantial completion milestone on the Southeast Rail Extension. At the same time, RTD General Manager and CEO Dave Genova announced a grand opening date for the line – Friday, May 17.

Grand opening events are being planned for Friday and Saturday, May 17-18. The line will open for service on Sunday, May 19. More information is available at rtd-denver.com.
