RTD trains largest group of light rail operators yet

Being a light rail operator is not as easy as it looks. Most people have driven an automotive vehicle on roadways; however, operating a train is completely different and it involves a skill set that not many people have the opportunity to learn. Light rail trainees learn new vocabulary and train in the rail yard prior to operating on the “main line” ─ which is all of the RTD tracks around the Denver metro area. Not every trainee will graduate because of the unique aptitude it takes to become a light rail operator.

Thanks to cooperation from other groups within Rail Operations, RTD was able to hire its largest class yet. Learn what light rail students have to do before they can operate on the main line. Light Rail Vehicle Operator Training Manager Rolando Medina walks through the steps of becoming a light rail operator.
