RTD’s Free MallRide detour extends to Welton Street beginning Sunday

With the first phase of construction of Denver’s 16th Street Mall Project continuing to make progress, RTD's Free MallRide detour will be extended three additional blocks beginning Sunday, Aug. 21. The extended detour will take place between Wazee and Welton streets through Jan. 7, 2023.

RTD's Free MallRide service began detouring in early April as the reconstruction project got underway. Shuttles will continue to provide service to the area, detouring around construction to 15th and 17th streets as needed. The map below outlines the current MallRide route and the temporary stop locations on 15th and 17th streets.

Construction is occurring in phases. RTD encourages customers to take advantage of the agency website and transit apps to stay informed of changes to transit services and quickly find options for alternate routes to avoid delays.

The 16th Street Mall Project builds on nearly a decade of planning and listening to the community to inform how to reconstruct and revitalize the Mall from Market Street to Broadway.

The investment will:

  • Improve safety, mobility and accessibility
  • Address deteriorating infrastructure
  • Create more space for people to lounge, work, shop and play
