This month, RTD recognizes bus operator Craig Vasbinder, who helped clear bystanders from an area along the 16th Street Mall where an individual was threatening them, and waved down Denver Police officers to provide assistance.

How long have you driven for RTD? Have you always been a bus driver?

Nine years. I have always been a driver. I worked at First Transit in Commerce City for 2.5 years prior.

What were you in a previous life?

Construction, maintenance and manufacturing.

What do you like best about your job?

Being around the people and getting out and about.

If you could listen to music while working, what type would you choose?

Smooth jazz – although I like a little bit of everything.

If you could deck out your bus, what style would it be?

A Christmas bus during the holiday season.

If you could change your uniform color, what color would you prefer?

Blue.

What type of service would you drive if given the choice? What is your favorite service to drive or operate?

I currently drive the MallRide, and I would want to stay on the Mall. I enjoy the environment.
