About Us

The Regional Transportation District was created in 1969 by the Colorado General Assembly to develop, operate, and maintain a mass transportation system for the benefit of the people in RTD's service area. The 2,340 square mile district serves all or part of eight counties:

  • Boulder
  • Broomfield
  • Denver
  • Jefferson
  • Adams
  • Arapahoe
  • Douglas
  • Weld

RTD’s governing body is a 15-member elected Board of Directors, with each director elected by district for a four-year term. Each director district contains approximately 180,000 residents.

How To Ride

Whether you're visiting, new to the area or just new to riding transit, RTD makes it easy to figure out how to get to where you want to go. A great place to start is our Trip Planner. It will help you figure out which routes and services to use to reach your desired destination.

Then check out fares and passes to determine how much your trip will cost. If you're riding rail, the ticket vending machine (TVM) will figure out your fare for you when you input your starting and ending points. Parking fees apply at some Park‑n‑Rides. Learn about parking fees by visiting how to park.

If you're going to be riding RTD regularly, it pays to look at all the fare products like ticket books and passes that are available to help you save money. Many are even available at the online store.

Some of the most popular services for visitors are RTD's SkyRide and University of Colorado A Line to and from Denver International Airport and the Free MallRide running the length of the 16th Street Mall in Denver.

If you're going to need to get around for a few days, RTD offers a 10-Ride Ticket Book for visitors coming in to town for a short stay. Parking fees apply at some RTD Park-n-Rides. Learn about parking fees by visiting how to park.
