Be Prepared for the Unexpected

The Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) volunteer program educates you about the types of hazards that can affect our transit system and communities. Using the skills learned in training, demonstrations, and exercises, CERT members can provide critical support to professional responders by providing immediate assistance to victims and organizing spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site.

CERT Training

The two-day course trains people in emergency preparedness and basic disaster skills including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

To become a CERT volunteer, you must complete all two training classes. Upon completion of the courses, you’ll receive your certification of completion and a CERT backpack filled with safety supplies and equipment.

Classes are held on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the RTD administrative offices located at 1660 Blake Street, Rooms T&D in Denver. Meals are not provided. Attire is casual.

CERT Volunteer Requirements

To join CERT, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older.
  • Be a RTD bus or rail rider.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Make a two-year commitment to the program.
  • Complete a free two-day training session.
  • Be able to participate in one training exercise per year.
  • Be available to assist with any RTD bus or rail system emergency.
