RTD team demonstrates agility and creativity celebrating the National Western Stock Show Parade
by Brandon Figliolino, Manager, Community EngagementFor 16 days in January, Denver becomes the fairgrounds for thousands of ranchers, farmers and visitors eager to watch and compete in rodeos, horse shows and livestock auctions. Known as the National Western Stock Show, the annual event kicks off every year with a parade through downtown Denver. In 2023 and 2024, RTD employees donned their cowboy hats and boots to mosey alongside cattle, horses, farming equipment and other equestrians in celebration of the Stock Show, earning the “Reserve Champion Award” in its first year of participation.
As in previous years, RTD planned to march in 2025 with a pair of contracted horses and a wagon. However, inclement weather Thursday stranded them. When made aware of the issue early that morning, Communications and Engagement employees brainstormed solutions. Projects and Contracts Manager Adrian Mabry connected with Facilities Maintenance to borrow an enclosed utility trailer. The trailer replaced the wagon and showcased the banners designed by the Marketing team. Mabry’s truck provided the horsepower necessary to tow the trailer down the parade route.
With temperatures in the low 20s, 17 RTD employees assembled in a Coors Field parking lot. Heavy coats covered their flannel button-downs. In their gloved hands were cups of hot cocoa and coffee. As they marched down 17th Street to the cheers of paradegoers – including shouts of “I love RTD!” and “I took the N Line to get here!” – all of them smiled.
Despite challenges, RTD employees demonstrated creativity and agility in pursuit of customer and community connections. Community Engagement is grateful for everyone’s support in making this parade a memorable one!
