Mobile Ticketing Frequently Asked Questions

RTD MyRide App

Where can I use the RTD MyRide app?

The MyRide mobile barcode and RTD mobile tickets are valid on all regular bus, FlexRide, SkyRide, and train services. They are not valid on Access-a-Ride or RTD Special Service routes and another form of fare payment is required to ride these services. Please read RTD’s fare policies before traveling.

What is the MyRide mobile barcode?

The MyRide mobile barcode allows you to simply scan your phone at validators to pay your fare on RTD buses and trains using your account balance. When you use your MyRide mobile barcode your trips accumulate and your fare will automatically be capped at the cost of a Day or Monthly Pass ensuring you never pay more than you should.

Are there any fees for using the RTD MyRide app?

No, the RTD MyRide app is free to download. You may incur data usage fees via your mobile service provider for use of the application. RTD is not responsible for any mobile carrier data charges that a customer incurs as a result of downloading or using the RTD MyRide app.

Is the RTD MyRide app available on all devices?

The RTD MyRide app is available on the majority of iOS and Android devices installed with recent operating systems. Older versions of software may not be supported.

Will the application store my credit card details?

You have the option to store your credit card details for future transactions.

What security protections are in place to protect my personal information?

The RTD Mobile Tickets platform is fully certified and compliant with Payment Card Industry standards (PCI-DSS). All payment communications are fully encrypted via SSL, any sensitive data stored are highly encrypted, and systems are constantly being monitored for security vulnerabilities.

Account Management

Can I manage my account online?

Do I need to set up an account to use the RTD MyRide app?

No, but we recommend that you do for your convenience and protection. If you create a customer account and your mobile device is lost, stolen, or replaced, your balance and any unused, unexpired tickets will be available when logging into your account on the new device.

Purchasing Mobile Tickets

When should I buy my ticket?

You may pre-purchase tickets for future use and activate as you ride or purchase a ticket on the day of travel. Pre-purchased tickets expire 45 days after purchase even if not activated for use. 10-Ride Ticket Pack passes expire 120 days after purchase even if not activated for use.

If I am traveling with friends and family, can I purchase and activate more than one ticket on my phone?

Yes, you can buy up to 10 mobile tickets per ticket type in a single purchase, with a maximum of 20 tickets per ticket type in a day. You can still use your MyRide barcode to pay for your fare, but others will have to use mobile tickets that are purchased separately, and fare capping will not apply to those tickets. You must activate a ticket for each passenger before boarding an RTD vehicle. Be aware that activating a large number of tickets may slow down the app.

Are receipts available for mobile ticketing purchases?

Receipts are available through email for all purchases made through the RTD Mobile Tickets App. Please enter your email address when you purchase a ticket, and a receipt will be automatically emailed to you. If you can’t find your receipt, you can open the ticket from your ticket wallet and re-send the receipt to your email address.

Can I get a refund for unused tickets or service disruptions?

RTD does not issue refunds for unused fare media. In the event of service disruptions, please contact RTD Customer Care at 303-299-6000.

Redeeming Mobile Tickets

When do I activate my ticket?

You must activate your ticket before boarding a bus or train. Bus operators and fare inspectors will require an activated ticket. Please note: tickets will expire at 2:59 a.m. on the day after activation.

Do mobile tickets expire?

Yes. Purchased tickets and passes expire 45 days after purchase even if they are not activated. 10-Ride Ticket Pack passes expire 120 days after purchase even if not activated.

Aren’t Day Passes good for 24 hours?

Mobile tickets have an expiration time of 2:59 a.m. on the day after activation. Depending on when you activate, this may not be a full 24-hour period.

Can I transfer to other routes with a mobile ticket?

Yes. If you have a Local Day Pass you may take a one-way trip on a higher level of service if you pay for the upgrade in cash on the bus, or purchase an upgrade ticket at a ticket vending machine on a rail platform or at a rail station.

Will my mobile ticket still work if I lose my cell phone service while trying to use my ticket?

Mobile tickets do not need cell phone or Wi-Fi services to be displayed. You do need connectivity to purchase a ticket, which must be done before boarding. If you lose cell phone service after purchasing a ticket, you will still be able to activate and display the ticket from the ticket wallet.

What happens if my smart phone becomes inoperable (e.g., dead battery) prior to being able to show my mobile ticket?

If your mobile phone is inoperable, you will have to use some other payment method for the trip.

What happens if I buy a new device?

If you have an RTD MyRide account and purchase a new mobile device, simply install the app on your new device and sign into your account. Your balance and any unused or unexpired tickets will be available. If your balance or any unused or unexpired tickets do not appear, please contact RTD’s Customer Care team at 303-299-6000.
