Property and Evidence

The RTD Transit Police Department preserves and stores property and evidence for its jurisdiction encompassing 2,349 square miles across eight counties and 40 cities throughout the Denver Metro region. The department follows strict guidelines to ensure the integrity of all items received, held, and released from our custody.

Appointments are required to retrieve property. Appointments are available Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30p.m., excluding holidays. To pick up property, you must present a valid government-issued ID, passport, or jail-issued ID.

If property is not claimed within 30 days, it will be disposed of per RTD Policy.

Transit Police

The RTD Transit Police Department operates a complex security model dedicated to providing a safe and secure transit system for our riders, employees and the community. The department is comprised of the chief of police, one deputy chief, one administrative lieutenant, four sergeants, and a team of transit police officers. The department is supported by two 911 dispatch centers operating 24/7, a video investigation unit, and more than 600 contracted police and uniformed security officers. The transit police jurisdiction encompasses nearly 2,400 square miles, operating in eight counties and 40 cities across the Denver Metro region
