Take RTD to celebrate Colorado Day weekend events

Looking for weekend plans? RTD offers bus routes and rail lines within steps of weekend celebrations as Colorado reaches its 150th anniversary

Customers are encouraged to take RTD to enjoy Colorado Day weekend celebrations, including special exhibitions at History Colorado Center and events at Denver Union Station in honor of Colorado’s 150th birthday on Aug. 1.

RTD is partnering with the History Colorado Center to celebrate the state’s150th milestone year. Located in the heart of Denver, the center is a state-of-the-art cultural venue featuring commemorative exhibitions that highlight significant moments in Colorado’s history.

Pancakes– get ‘em while they’re hot

History Colorado Center will kick off Colorado Day with a free pancake breakfast outside the building at 9 a.m., while supplies last. Visitors can explore the exhibit 38th Star: Colorado Becomes the Centennial State,which traces Colorado’s long road to statehood. The exhibit covers the first four attempts at achieving statehood in the 1860s, derailed by debates over voting rights and government policy. The exhibition runs through Sept. 6.

Union Station festivities

In addition to exhibitions, visitors can head to Union Station in downtown Denver for family-friendly activities and live performances from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Union Station is accessible via the A, B, C, E, G, N, and W lines. Learn more about Colorado Day celebrations here.

Traveling via RTD

Using the Next Ride app lets customers easily plan their trip from start to finish. Enter “Colorado Anniversary” as the destination to view route options for the exhibitions or enter “Denver Union Station” to reach downtown Denver celebrations.

Transit options to History Colorado Center:

Customers can use the following bus or rail options to experience the exhibitions:

• Bus Route 0 to the Lincoln Street and 13th Avenue stop
• Bus Route 32 to Civic Center Station followed by a two-block walk south on Broadway
• Take a rail line to Union Station and transferto the 16th Street FreeRideto16thand Stout streets,then walk a short distance to the History Colorado Center

Zero Fare for Youth

RTD’s Zero Fare for Youth program makes visiting the exhibits at History Colorado Center more affordable for families with kids or students ages 19 and under who can ride bus or rail services at no cost. For customers older than 19, paying fare is now more convenient with Tap-n-Ride which accepts a Mastercard, Visa, or mobile wallet with a quick tap at any validator.

A bus wrapped to mark the occasion

As part of Colorado’s 150th anniversary celebration, RTD also introduced a commemorative bus wrap in March. The design features artwork inspired by Colorado’s statehood and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The bus is currently in service throughout the Denver metro area.
