Cleaning up to create a Welcoming Transit Environment

RTD officers worked in partnership to transform an area near the R Line

RTD Transit Police officers (RTD-PD), the Aurora Police Department and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) worked together on a dramatic cleanup near the R Line this past summer. RTD was contacted on July 2 about a homeless encampment near the light rail tracks at 13800 E Colfax Ave. below the R Line bridge. RTD-PD officer Dominick Castiglione spearheaded the cleanup by contacting internal RTD departments and coordinated help with partner agencies for a solution.

On July 17, RTD-PD officers, the Aurora PD and CDOT personnel worked to clear the encampment filling two 24-foot roll-off containers. Given the clean-up ran late into the day, CDOT returned on July 22 to remove the roll-off containers for proper disposal.

The before and after photos display the results of the extensive cleanup effort. The project was one example of the efforts undertaken by Transit Police officers to support a Welcoming Transit Environment for customers and the community.
