March 18 Federal Boulevard BRT Town Hall Postponed
UPDATED March 14, 2025:
The Colorado Department of Transportation is postponing the Federal Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Telephone Town Hall scheduled for March 18 at 6:00 pm MDT. The meeting will be rescheduled at a later date.
Federal Boulevard BRT continues to be a priority project for CDOT. However, initial project scoping had been focused on seeking access to the federal Small Starts program, administered by the Federal Transit Administration, within the next few years. At the current time, many future grant opportunities are being paused by the new administration and it is currently unknown if and when further rounds of grant funding might become available. CDOT still plans to pursue Small Starts if it is available. Given this significant uncertainty related to federal grants, CDOT is planning to explore pathways to pursue the project in the event that such funding is not available. A non-federally funded project would need to be smaller, and potentially broken into smaller phases, which means that CDOT has to do some additional work to develop more options to keep the project moving. We will reschedule the conversation once we can begin to talk about some of these contingencies in more detail and are able to speak through the possible scenarios for moving forward.
CDOT will continue to develop Federal BRT in partnership with the Regional Transportation District, the Denver Council of Regional Governments, City and County of Denver, Adams County, City of Federal Heights, City of Westminster and the Federal Transit Administration. CDOT and its partners are committed to delivering high-quality BRT on Federal Boulevard and other state highways in the Denver Metro region.
While CDOT waits for further federal clarification regarding funding opportunities, the project team will continue to engage with the community through business outreach, pop-up events, and other smaller scale activities that will be posted to the project webpage at: https://www.codot.gov/projects/studies/denvermetrobrt/federalbrt/upcoming-outreach-events-outreach-events-map.
