RTD Bus Operations to host career fair Monday through Wednesday in Aurora

A rewarding career awaits at RTD – and job-seekers can learn more at the agency’s next hiring event, to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the East Metro operating division, 14100 E. Colfax Ave., Aurora.

The career fair will provide applicants the opportunity to speak with employees from throughout Bus Operations, including operators, managers and supervisors. RTD recruiters will be available to answer questions about positions throughout the agency and accept applications on site.

Frontline positions such as bus and rail operators, train engineers, body shop technicians, general repair mechanics, signal power maintainers, electro-mechanics, and specific IT and cybersecurity positions are eligible for a $4,000 signing bonus.

“RTD offers a market-based living wage, excellent benefits and opportunities to pursue a meaningful career in public service,” said Chris Deines, General Superintendent of Transportation. “The work that we do matters deeply to the customers we serve and the communities throughout the region where we operate. The agency invests in its employees and is committed to helping them grow.”

RTD continues to be challenged by a staffing shortage. The vacancy rate for jobs within bus operations was about 19% in May, the most recent period for which data were available. As of the end of last month, the agency needed 184 bus operators of 952 budgeted positions. Bus maintenance was seeking to fill 68 of 367 positions.

The starting hourly wage for bus operators is $24.96. Part-time positions are available, requiring a commitment of at least 15 hours a week, as are opportunities to earn overtime. No prior experience is necessary, and new bus operators will be paid to complete the nine weeks of training required to obtain the Commercial Driver License needed to hold this position.

Jobs within bus maintenance include general repair mechanics, which start at $31.46 an hour, and body shop technicians, with a starting hourly wage of $29.10. All of these important positions carry a signing bonus.

RTD values the service and skills of job-seekers who carry military experience. Hiring for new and lateral officers is also underway with the agency’s growing Transit Police Department. To learn more about positions at RTD and to apply online, visit rtd-denver.com/careers.
