11.6.26 RTD extends condolences following fatal Lakewood police shooting

RTD extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Lakewood Police agent killed in the line of duty last night. RTD stands with the Lakewood Police Department as it mourns this devastating loss, and wish the injured agents and RTD customer a full recovery.

The incident involved an RTD-contracted bus operating on Route 76 in Lakewood with four customers. Law enforcement officers encountered the suspect away from the bus, who subsequently boarded the vehicle followed by the pursuing officers.

RTD’s law enforcement partners face extraordinary risks in their work to protect our communities. RTD is grateful to the agents who responded to this incident and to the first responders who came to their aid. Their courage and commitment to serving others deserve our recognition and support.

RTD will continue to cooperate fully with the Lakewood Police Department and other investigators as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected, including the families of those involved, our customers, the bus operator and responding personnel. The agency is committed to supporting our law enforcement partners during this difficult time.
