RTD selects new Deputy Chief of Transit Police Department

Sean Faris joins the RTD-PD with more than 35 years of experience

DENVER (Sept. 8, 2025) –– The Regional Transportation District (RTD) selected Sean Faris as the Deputy Chief of the RTD Transit Police (RTDE-PD) on September 2. Faris is a veteran law enforcement officer with more than 35 years of experience, previously serving as lieutenant in the Patrol Division of the Denver Police Department (DPD).

Prior to joining DPD, Faris was a deputy sheriff for nine years for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, where he served as a detention deputy, patrol deputy and field training officer. For his work he received a Distinguished Service Cross and a Medal of Valor.

Faris has worked in a secondary employment capacity for RTD Transit Police for over a decade and most recently managed the DPD secondary employment program for RTD. Faris also held an integral role in the Reclaiming Denver Union Station Steering Committee in 2022, working to address policing and enforcement issues.

Faris is a graduate of the Colorado State University Global Campus, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration and a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership. He earned certificates from the University of Denver in Public Safety Leadership Development, as well as from the International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations training program. He is a recipient of the FBI LEEDA Leadership Trilogy Award and a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command.

Chief of Police and Emergency Management Steve Martingano said that as the deputy chief, Faris will develop effective strategies that reduce crime, enhance public safety and improve quality of life for citizens.

“I am excited for Deputy Chief Faris to join our agency,” Martingano said. “He brings deep knowledge of law enforcement to the Denver metro area and RTD’s approach to operations and policing. I look forward to working alongside him to bring this department further on its path to becoming one of the premier law enforcement organizations in this region and across the nation.”
