RTD will provide bus shuttle service May 20-22 during extended light rail maintenance window

RTD Staff

DENVER (May 15, 2025) –– The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will extend its overnight maintenance window to remove the final E and H Line speed restriction between Yale and Southmoor stations, eliminating the last of 29 slow zones implemented last year as part of a more robust standard for regularly inspecting the agency’s more than 120 miles of light rail track.

Work to be performed includes rail maintenance along the Southeast Corridor between Southmoor and I-25•Broadway stations Tuesday, May 20, through Thursday, May 22. The work will temporarily impact light rail service on the E and H lines between the stations.

E and H line trains will not operate on their normal schedules between 4:30 a.m. and approximately 12:15 p.m. each day, returning to regular service after work is completed on Thursday, May 22.

Bus shuttles will replace both E and H line trains between Southmoor and I-25•Broadway stations while the track work is underway, and H Line will not operate north of Southmoor. Trains will resume normal schedules and operations outside of the daily scheduled maintenance hours.

During the approximately eight-hour period, crews will work to eliminate the last E and H Line speed restriction that remains between Yale and Southmoor stations on the southbound track. Bus shuttles will provide connections for customers in and out of Denver Union Station and the Downtown Loop.

What to expect:

  • E Line trains will operate every 15 minutes north of I-25•Broadway Station and every 30 minutes south of Southmoor Station during the disruption
  • H Line trains will not operate north of Southmoor Station. Trains will operate every 30 minutes between Southmoor and Florida stations
  • H Line customers destined for the Downtown Loop will need to transfer to the D Line at I-25•Broadway Station
  • Two H Line trips will not operate at the start of each day during the work: these are the 3:52 a.m. trip from Evans to Florida and the 4:40 a.m. trip from Florida to Southmoor
  • Regular light rail service on the E and H lines will resume at approximately 12:15 p.m. each day of the three-day period

Completion of maintenance work along the light rail corridor will depend on several factors, including contractor availability and weather forecasts. More information about RTD’s light rail speed restrictions is available online.
