RTD’s 16th Street Free MallRide will not run during “Meet in the Street” events
Free MetroRide will provide alternate service on 15th and 17th streets during four weekends this summer
DENVER (May 26, 2021) – The Regional Transportation District (RTD)’s free shuttle service along the 16th Street Mall will not operate on a few weekends this summer, for the Downtown Denver Partnership’s “Meet in the Street” events.
Meet in the Street is a series of all-day events on the 16th Street Mall hosted by the Downtown Denver Partnership, the city and county of Denver and RTD. Featuring live music, games, and activities, these events allow everyone to safely re-engage and reconnect in the city center.
The Meet in the Street events will take place on the following dates from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.:
- May 29, 30, 31 (Memorial Day Weekend)
- July 3, 4, 5 (Fourth of July Weekend)
- August 7, 8 September 4, 5, 6 (Labor Day Weekend)
On these dates, the 16th Street Mall will be closed to all automotive traffic and Free MetroRide will operate on 15th and 17th streets between Market Street and Civic Center Station. Free MetroRide will operate on 16th Street between Union Station and Market Street.
Because the alternate mall shuttle service will be running on streets with general traffic, Free MetroRide buses will be used instead of the regular MallRide shuttle to help with passenger safety and rider capacity. Passengers who normally travel the 16th Street Mall will be able to catch the Free MetroRide buses at all bus stops on 15th Street (heading towards Union Station) and 17th Street (heading toward Civic Center Station).
It’s still a requirement for all RTD customers to wear masks while waiting for and riding RTD vehicles, per federal mandate.
Signage will be placed on 15th, 16th and 17th streets to help direct people to the temporary shuttle stops and ambassadors from the Downtown Denver Partnership will be on hand. Riders are encouraged to plan accordingly and allow extra time for their trips.
