Transit Police and Bus Operations help deliver "Shop with a Cop" event

Bus operations and Transit Police officers assisted the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in hosting its seasonal holiday program for families and youth

This holiday season, RTD Bus Operations and Transit Police partnered with the Arapahoe County Sherriff’s Office for its “Shop with a Cop” event on Dec. 16. The holiday event aimed to bring joy to children from disadvantaged families and provide them with an opportunity to select toys, clothing, and other essential items their families may otherwise not be able to afford during the season.

This year, RTD Bus Operations provided transportation for youth and families to visit Walmart in Centennial for the shopping trip.“The program provides a meaningful experience for underprivileged kids and families, and the County sought help moving participants between event locations,” said RTD-PD Commander Jonathan Holloway.

Transit Police officers helped kids select items during the celebratory shopping event for the holidays. Almost 90 children participated and were provided with $175 Walmart gift cards from community sponsors for their purchases. Holloway noted the event is just one example of internal coordination and teamwork at RTD to assist partner agencies for community-oriented events.
