Commander Broderick Fowler

Broderick Fowler was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is a graduate of Delaware State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He began his law enforcement career in 2013 with the Philadelphia County Sheriff’s Office, a 426-member full-service law enforcement agency serving the city and county of Philadelphia, a jurisdiction of over 1.5 million residents.

In his capacity in the Sheriff’s Office, Fowler was assigned to various units; Patrol, the Fugitive Warrant Unit, where he served criminal and civil warrants, and has administrative experience working in the civil process area, to include facilitating Sheriff’s sales on mortgage and tax lien properties. Broderick has served in the Juanita Kidd Stout Criminal Justice Center Detention Unit and earned a transfer into the highly selective and elite Special Operations Group.

In 2019 Fowler was promoted to Sergeant where he served as the immediate supervisor for approximately 40 deputy sheriffs in the Transportation Unit. Fowler assigned and monitored the transport of hundreds of inmates per day safely and securely. He created operations plans to execute the apprehension and extradition of prisoners across Pennsylvania. He also oversaw the response to George Floyd related protests, created a vehicle maintenance and replacement strategy for vehicles assigned to the Sheriff’s fleet and worked as the Patrol Division liaison to the Philadelphia Police Department, arranging the human resource logistics for all major events, parades, and warrant initiatives within the city and county of Philadelphia. Broderick also crafted dignitary protections plans for Philadelphia County judiciary staff and administration and has been assigned to the City Commissioner’s Office to aid in the election ballot security process.

Fowler is specially trained in Community Policing, serving on the Philadelphia Police Department Bridging the Gap Community Relations Team, an organization dedicated to providing police mentors to underrepresented youths in the county. He is also assigned to the highly successful PSO Community Outreach Unit, a group that provides home retention, mental health and employment services to the underserved/at-risk populations. Broderick is a member of FBI-LEEDA, the NAACP, and the National Tactical Officers Association.

Broderick shared that he is most proud of being a good father and husband and being lauded for demonstrating leadership in tough situations. He is fond of the quote, “The police are the community, and the community are the police.”
