The sound of an impact wrench is unmistakable, calling to mind the “zip, zip, zip” heard in NASCAR pits as crews remove and replace tires as quickly as possible. At the Jefferson County Fairgrounds on Thursday, a steady stream of young women attending Transportation & Construction Girl Day were drawn by the sound to an air compressor RTD had brought – and the opportunity to use the tool themselves, many for the first time.

RTD will operate all A Line service at a 30-minute frequency, seven days a week, beginning Monday, Oct. 3, and continuing through Saturday, Oct. 29 while repairs are made to the railroad crossing at the intersection of Dahlia Street and Smith Road.

The transaction, authorized by RTD’s Board of Directors at its July 26 meeting, will reduce its annual debt service by a significant amount through interest savings – on average, the net present value of the savings is approximately $6.5 million each year in today’s dollars.
