Mike Burgoa - November 2025 Operator of the Month
November's Operator of the Month is Boulder Division's Mike Burgoa. Burgoa was selected by Boulder leadership for his dedication to customer excellence and creating a welcoming transit environment while prioritizing the safety and security of his customers. Burgoa was operating his bus along the Route FF1 when he was made aware of a Route LD1 bus that had succumbed to a mechanical failure, rendering the bus unable to move. He relayed to his customers that he was going to pull over close to the bus and pick up its passengers to finish their trip to Union Station. He also made sure that his fellow operator who was driving the Route LD1 bus was okay and made sure that assistance was on the way before finishing his trip.
Q&A
How long have you driven for RTD? Have you always been a bus driver?
I have been driving for RTD for what will be three years in December of this year, but I have not always been a bus driver.
What were you in a previous life?
I have worn many hats in my previous life. I went to college to study law enforcement to become a cop but became a bartender instead.
What do you like best about your job?
The thing I like most about my job is that everyday is different. I get to meet people from all walks of life and I get people from Point A to Point B safely. This job always keeps me on my toes with every day being completely different.
If you could listen to music while working, what type?
Good question! If I could listen to music while working, I would listen to R&B or Hip Hop to keep me awake. Country or soft music would put me to sleep!
If you could deck out your bus, what style?
If I could deck out my bus, I would make it a Low Rider or a version of a Slam Truck with big wheels, a loud sound system, all while riding low!
If you could change your uniform color, what color?
If I could change my uniform color, it would have to be purple.
What type of service would you drive if given the choice, and/or your favorite service to drive or operate?
If given the choice, I would drive any coach bus on the highway. I love coaches! I can drive the FF1 all year round and the NB in the summer.
