March 2026: Gregory Nelson
March’s Operator of the Month is Gregory Nelson from Platte Division! Nelson was selected due in large part to his professionalism and kindness as an operator on the Shopper’s Special route. His calm demeanor, combined with his exceptional driving skills, allowed him to stay on time, despite heavy traffic and construction along the route.
Assistant Manager of Transportation Operating Division (Platte), Kalee Wallace, said the following about Nelson:
“Gregory consistently demonstrates dedication to making lives better through connections by ensuring his customers reach their destinations safely, comfortably, and on time,” she said.
Q&A
How long have you driven for RTD, and have you always been a bus driver?
I’ve been driving for RTD for 15 years, and I recently received recognition from my manager for my years of service.
What were you in a previous life?
I don’t believe in reincarnation, but before joining RTD I worked as an electrician. Unfortunately, I kept getting laid off, and the lack of stability drove me to look for something more reliable. What ultimately brought me to RTD was the security of knowing I wouldn’t have to worry about being laid off again—and that stability has made all the difference.
If you could listen to music while working, what type?
I’d go with an indie mix, and I’d also include my favorite artist, Steve Winwood. He was very popular in the ’70s and ’80s.
If you could deck out your bus, what style?
I’d style it to look like a Mini Cooper. My bus would still be full‑size, of course—big enough for all of my customers—but it would have that fun, look that Mini Coopers are known for.
If you could change your uniform color, what color?
If I could choose, I would go back to the button‑down collared tan shirts and pair them with black pants. I’ve like the classic professional look.
