RTD launches newest SkyRide service: Route AL connecting Denver International Airport and Longmont

RTD and partners celebrated launch of AL service with ribbon cutting and informal remarks

DENVER (Sept. 30, 2026) – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) has launched its newest SkyRide service, Route AL, providing Longmont residents with a direct, reliable connection to Denver International Airport. Local leaders and regional partners gathered Sept. 28 at RTD’s 8th Avenue and Coffman Street Park‑n‑Ride for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony marking the start of the new route.

During the event, speakers highlighted how the AL service strengthens regional mobility and opens new opportunities for residents. RTD Board Director Karen Benker, who represents District O, emphasized the long‑standing challenges of airport travel from Longmont. “This is a big deal because I think we all know getting to Denver International Airport is pretty hard from Longmont,” Benker said. “And now it's going to be easy, it's going to be affordable, and it's going to also be dependable.”

Longmont Mayor Susie Hidalgo-Fahring noted that the new route reflects the importance of regional collaboration. “As our region grows, we need to think beyond city boundaries. The challenges and opportunities we face do not stop at the edge of Longmont,” she said. “Housing, jobs, transportation, climate resilience, economic development, and the quality of life are regional issues, and they require regional solutions. That's why partnerships like this one are so important.”

Route AL began service Sept. 27 and operates hourly from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The line travels from the 8th Avenue and Coffman Street Park‑n‑Ride along US 287, with stops at the Niwot and Lafayette Park‑n‑Rides, before continuing along E‑470 to Denver International Airport.
