Denver competes to host the 2030 Gay Games
Let the games begin … in Denver! Up against only one other city, Perth, Australia, Denver is a finalist to host Gay Games 2030. If selected, Denver would welcome tens of thousands of visitors from across the globe for a 10-day event celebrating sports and culture, with a focus on LGBTQIA+ identities and allies. The mission of the Federation of Gay Games is to promote equity, diversity and inclusion through sport and culture. The organization notes: “The Gay Games is open to all, young or old, athlete or artist, experienced or novice, of any gender or sexuality.”
RTD worked closely with Denver's bid committee and Visit Denver to ensure the Federation of Gay Games site inspectors arriving in Denver last weekend had an overview of RTD's services. Transportation is a main consideration in the selection to host the global games. Demonstrating how efficiently customers can travel via the A Line between Denver International Airport to downtown Denver, where most of the games and activities would take place, is a highlight. Site inspectors will use RTD buses to make connections during their stay this week, in addition to taking the G Line to Arvada.
RTD employees welcomed site inspectors at Denver International Airport upon arrival. Each site inspector was provided with RTD How to Ride brochures, safety information and transit-themed swag.
The selected host city will be announced next summer during Gay Games XII, which takes place in Valencia, Spain.
A community event hosted by the Gay Games Denver 2030 bid committee, is planned for Wednesday to welcome the site inspectors to the Denver metro area. The RTD Pride bus will be staged at the event, which will be 5-8 p.m.at Reelworks, 1399 35th St., Denver. For details, click here.
