Denver Public Library, RTD draw 180 for Silent Pages Society meetup on N Line
An estimated 180 book enthusiasts and transit fans boarded RTD’s N Line on Feb. 26 for the Silent Pages Society’s February meetup. The Silent Pages Society is an adult reading program designed and funded by Denver Public Library (DPL).
The event brought patrons together at Denver Union Station before traveling by train to and from Eastlake•124th Station, offering a dedicated time to read, connect, and experience transit. The Silent Pages Society, launched to encourage reading in public spaces, holds bi-monthly meetups that blend community connections with a love of books. February’s meeting was the second to take place on the N Line and the third to take place on an RTD commuter rail line, starting with the A Line last year.
Readers’ book selections spanned all genres, including classics, sci-fi, romance-fantasy, and manga. They included “Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir, “A Little Devil in America” by Hanif Abdurraqib, and “The Silmarillion” by J.R.R. Tolkien, to name a few.
DPL, RTD, and Denver Union Station collaborated to promote the event to highlight and create a welcoming space for adult readers. DPL staff said the strong turnout reflects growing community interest in shared, screen-free activities.
The February ride featured no formal programming; instead, attendees were encouraged to enjoy the quiet, read alongside fellow riders, and explore the region by rail.
“The motion of the train and the white noise make a really nice reading zone,” one patron said. “It really gets you in the right environment for [reading].”
“The motion of [the train] really makes you lock in,” another patron agreed.
