Emu on the run

RTD Transit Police were in for quite the day when an emu was reported wandering near Oak Station in Lakewood! Thanks to quick thinking and fast running by RTD-PD along with animal control and Lakewood police, they were able to safely capture and bring the bird named Doug home. The incident was recorded on the officers’ body cameras and instantly became a story to remember (and sparked a debate on how to pronounce “emu”).

When a purse was accidentally left behind on a customer’s trip across two buses, the customer accepted it as gone forever. Hope was not lost! The purse had made its way to RTD’s Lost and Found office at Civic Center Station. The customer’s appreciative Facebook post summed up the year’s spirit of community.

2025 reminded the community that transit is full of pleasant surprises andconnection. RTD looks forward to the new year and many more memorable journeys that bring the community together. Happy Holidays!
