Rad Things To Do

Rad Things (to) Do - August 2025

Austin Nettleton

Welcome to August at 5,280 feet, a time when Denver truly comes alive. The concerts are loud, the theatres are packed and, most importantly, Payton Manning’s forehead gleefully rises over the Rockies, reflecting the orange summer sun back on to downtown Denver, shining his light and blessings onto the Denver Broncos faithful. Yep, there’s no time like August in the Denver area.

From the return of Broncos football and the Savannah Bananas playing in Denver for the first time to huge concerts by some of rock music’s most famous bands to the world-famous Moulin Rouge taking the stage at the Buell Theatre, there is no shortage of Rad Things (to) Do around the 303 this month. Check out what’s happening below and get ready to have an unforgettable August.

Sports

As the August sun rises over the prairies of eastern Colorado, the orange glow permeates the seats of downtown Denver and Empower Field at Mile High Stadium… okay, enough of the David Attenborough-inspired commentary, let us just get right into it – DO YOU BO-LIEVE IN MIRACLES?! That’s right, the Denver Broncos, fresh off of last season’s first playoff appearance since Payton Manning led the beloved ponies to the promised land in 2015, take to the grassy turf at Mile High Stadium for the first time this month with a preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. While it is unlikely that Broncos fans will see much of Bo Nix in action, it will be a great test for the Broncos’ impressive class of rookies to prove themselves and earn a spot on the final 52-man roster before the season begins in September.

While the Broncos hype train is beginning to leave the (Empower Field at Mile High) station, things are going to get bananas at Coors Field… literally. For the first time ever, the world-famous Savannah Bananas baseball team takes to the diamond at 20th and Blake streets for two days of high-flying acrobatics, record-breaking home runs, impromptu dance routines and memories for the whole family. Don’t miss out on the best baseball anyone will see at Coors Field this year, which is not exactly a high bar to meet right now. Oh, and the Colorado Rockies are in action this month, too. Balance out the highs of watching the Bananas in action with the lows of watching the Rockies, as the team attempts to play baseball with multiple homestands this month against the Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.

Other notable sporting events taking place this month include the return of the Colorado Buffaloes football team looking to continue the momentum from last season without Heisman-winning wide receiver and defensive back Travis Hunter and star QB Shedeur Sanders; a seven-kilometer marathon hosted by the Denver Broncos; and two nights of gravity-defying monster truck action at Ball Arena when the Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live tour roars into the 303 later this month. Don’t forget about the University of Denver Pioneers soccer teams, too, as both the men’s and women’s teams have a full calendar of soccer action throughout August.

Nine Inch Nails - "The Hand That Feeds"

Nine Inch Nails turned the entire rock genre on its head in the 90s and 2000s through its blend of industrial rock and shoegaze that sent the band rocketing up the charts and into radios everywhere. Now, they're hitting the road, making a stop at Ball Arena Aug. 15 with Boys Noize.

Cyndi Lauper - "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

80s pop icon, Cyndi Lauper, is hanging it up after over 40 years of creating chart-topping bops. Don't miss her farewell tour and her final ever stop in Denver when she performs Aug. 12 at Fiddler's Green.

Randy Travis - "I Told You So"

If there was ever a Mount Rushmore of 90s country, Randy Travis would be on it. The legendary country artist has enjoyed a career of chart-topping songs and albums, and has amassed a dedicated following of millions from across the world. On Aug. 21, join Randy for a night of him performing his greatest hits at the Paramount Theater.

Simple Plan - "Welcome To My Life"

Arguably one of Canada's greatest exports, Simple Plan has been the soundtrack to nearly every emo Millennial's upbringing. Now, despite being in their 30s and 40s, Millenials can relive that good ol' teenage angst again when Simple Plan performs at The JunkYard Aug. 17 with Bowling For Soup and Lolo.

The Fray - "Over My Head"

In the 2000s, there were three certainties in life: death, taxes and songs by The Fray playing on your radio nonstop. Denver's very own four-piece pop rock band celebrates 20 years of their chart-topping album, "How to Save a Life" at the Mission Ballroom Aug. 27.

We Came As Romans - "Darkbloom"

We Came As Romans is no stranger to the stage. One of the most popular bands in the metalcore scene, the band has seen levels of success only a few of their cohorts have ever experienced. Now, they hit the Fillmore Aug. 16 with other metalcore heavyweights Currents, After The Burial and Johnny Booth in tow.

Thousand Below - "Palace Of Dread"

Thousand Below have been making waves in the post-hardcore and metalcore scenes since their debut album in 2017. From searing screams and spine-shattering breakdowns to pop-infused ballads, Thousand Below can do it all. With their new album, "Buried In Jade," dropping Friday, they're hitting the road to celebrate. Catch Thousand Below live at the Marquis Aug. 20 with Aviana, True North and Dreamwake.
