Tomorrow morning, wake up early and cast your gaze to the plains as the sun rises. September sunrises in Denver are a bit different, because much like the sun baby in the Teletubbies, Bo Nix’s chiseled face emits from the surface of it, basking the Mile High City in that beautiful orange and blue hue. That’s right, it’s September, and it’s officially football season in the 303. It’s not just football though, as this month’s calendar is absolutely packed to the rafters with concerts, theater, and the annual German takeover of the Ballpark neighborhood. Time to hit the gridiron in this month’s Rad Things (to) Do!

NOTE: Due to ongoing impacts around the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, the D, H, and L lines have been suspended through the first quarter of 2027. THE PRIMER

Sports

It’s finally football season in Broncos and Buffs country. After last year’s incredible season, falling just short of making the Super Bowl due to Bo Nix’s injury in the divisional round and losing in the conference championship, the Broncos are chomping at the bit to pick up right where they left off with one goal: winning this season’s Super Bowl title. They take to the turf at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium Sept. 20 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In Boulder, the University of Colorado Buffaloes look to rebound from an utterly disastrous 2025 season, in which they won only three games, with only one of those a shocking upset of Big 12 foe Iowa State, ending the season with a paltry 3-9 record. The Buffs get the season underway at Folsom Field against Weber State University on Sept. 12.

At the corner of 20th and Blake streets, the Rockies continue to both impress and baffle the Rockpile. While it’s looking like 2026 will be yet another year that the Rockies fail to make the postseason, they have shown signs of promise this season. Enjoy the final month of Rockies baseball at Coors Field with homestands against the Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

In other sports, the women of Denver Summit FC continue to find their footing (pun absolutely intended) during their inaugural season in the National Women’s Soccer League. Now with captain, superstar, and Denver’s very own Lindsey Heaps back with the team permanently, the Summit look to end the season on a high note, trying to break .500 before it’s all said and done with matches against Gotham FC, Bay FC, and Seattle Reign FC visiting the south metro this month. The Avalanche also take to the ice at Ball Arena this month for the first time this season to get the skating legs back under them with preseason puck against Utah, Winnipeg, and Los Angeles on deck.

Concerts

September always stands out as one of the marquee months of the year for concerts around the metro area, and this year’s is no exception. Garth Brooks headlines this month’s concert slate with a visit to the Ball Arena to play all of his greatest hits that he refuses to put on streaming platforms for the world to enjoy. Other notable artists and bands passing through the Mile High this month include Japanese hypermetal superstars Babymetal, the iconic Weezer, heavy-hitting hard rock pioneers Breaking Benjamin, Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar, hip-hop heavyweight Jack Harlow, metalcore’s flagbearer Killswitch Engage, and the mysterious alt-metal political powerhouse President making its first campaign tour across North America.

Comedy, theatre, and orchestra

It’s going to be quite the month for comedy, theatre, and orchestra in Denver. One of comedy’s biggest names, Jerry Seinfeld, takes the stage at the Bellco Theatre to headline this month’s comedy calendar, with other notable comedians George Lopez, Trixie, and Bobby Lee bringing the laughs to the masses.

Over at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, enjoy four productions taking place this month: “The Outsiders, “Destiny of Desire: A Telenovela Play with Music,” “Hold On To Your Butts,” and “Caribe” by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance.

The Colorado Symphony is back in action this month, too, with several performances at the Boettcher Concert Hall taking place. Additionally, fans of the hit anime series “My Hero Academia” can catch a live orchestration performance featuring the series’ soundtrack at the Paramount Theatre later this month.
