Rad Things To Do

Rad Things (to) Do - October 2026

Austin Nettleton

Every October, horrors beyond human comprehension rise from the shadows of the Front Range. These horrors take many forms, such as Peña Boulevard at 3:30 a.m., the mortifying odors of Greeley mixing with the Purina Plant before a storm, and the most terrifying of them all: the University of Colorado Buffaloes football team this season. However, despite all these things that go “Run Ralphie Run” in the Devil’s Night, there is no better place in the United States to celebrate the spooky season than right here in Denver, Colorado. In this hauntingly loaded special edition of Rad Things (to) Do, check out how RTD can help those looking for some frighteningly fun events and experiences get there without being traumatized by traffic (and whatever is happening at Folsom Field).

NOTE: Due to ongoing impacts around the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, all D, H, and L lines have been suspended, and construction is expected to be complete by the end of the first quarter (Q1) of 2027. To alleviate disruptions caused by the project, the C Line has been temporarily reinstated between Littleton•Mineral and Union stations. Additionally, a new temporary T Line has been added between I-25•Broadway and Lincoln stations.

The no-cost 16th Street FreeRide (FREE) offers connections to venues in and around the Central Business District between Union and Wade Blank Civic Center stations, including the Colorado Convention Center, Denver Performing Arts Complex, and the Paramount Theatre. All transit options listed below have been updated to include the most relevant transit information. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time when using RTD services. Visit https://www.rtd-denver.com/railproject for more information.

THE PRIMER

Breaking down this month’s biggest concerts and events in a format that would make a Ph.D. candidate jealous

The big events

Several big-ticket events take place this month, starting with the annual Denver Film Festival! The festival returns to the Sie FilmCenter, providing local independent filmmakers ample opportunities to get their work in front of the masses.

For those who couldn’t get enough Oktoberfest in their lives, The Denver Wiesn takes place at the National Western Center for two weekends of total immersion in German culture and testing feats of strength with even more stein hoisting.

At the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, theatergoers get to enjoy musical renditions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and The Who’s “Tommy,” while the Colorado Symphony embraces the spirit of the season with a performance of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Sports

October truly is an S-tier month, especially for sports fans. Every major sports league is either in regular season or postseason action all month long, and since Denver has teams represented in the big five leagues (well, minus the Rockies, but that’s just expected at this point), as well as in college and professional women’s sports, it’ll feel like picking candy from a bucket after a night of trick-or-treating.

The biggest sporting event of them all comes from NBC Sports and the Premier League, bringing a taste of the United Kingdom to the colonies with Premier League Mornings Live and a fan festival. Oct. 10-11, the crew of NBC Sports’ Premier League Mornings brings the Prem to Union Station, hosting the show live from the Mile High City while thousands of soccer (yes, soccer, as the USA earned the right to call it that on July 4, 1776) fans cheer on and represent their favorite Premier League clubs in the ultimate celebration of soccer this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Just don’t ask for financial advice from any Manchester City supporters in attendance given recent events.

When it comes to real football, the Denver Broncos continue their quest to return to the NFL playoffs and defend their 2025 AFC championship title as former Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock leads the Seattle Seahawks to their demise inside Empower Field at Mile High Stadium at the hands of Bo Nix and Jaylen Waddle on Oct. 15. For those who enjoy their football inside a haunted house, the University of Colorado Buffaloes are in action at Folsom Field as they continue to attempt to play football as the next installment of the Rumble in the Rockies takes place in Boulder against the University of Utah Utes. With the Rocky Mountain Horror Show in full swing, it is only fitting that the Buffs have a home game on Halloween against the Kansas State University Wildcats. Abandon all hope, all ye Buffs faithful who enter Folsom Oct. 31.

In other sports, the Denver Nuggets begin their 2026-2027 NBA regular season campaign this month, celebrating their home opener against the New Orleans Pelicans Oct. 24, while the Colorado Avalanche have already taken to the ice at Ball Arena and have several home games throughout the month, and yes, Nathan McKinnon is already in peak midseason form.

Down south, the ladies of the Denver Summit FC wrap up their inaugural season this month with two remaining home matches against Angel City FC and Racing Louisville, celebrating both a very respectable first season in the National Women’s Soccer League and the groundbreaking of their brand new state-of-the-art stadium being built at the Santa Fe Yards right next to RTD’s I-25•Broadway Station!

Concerts

There’s nothing scary about the concert calendar this month, because October is absolutely loaded with high-profile concerts from some of music’s biggest stars all month long. Headlining this month’s massive slate are Canada’s very own Rush, rap superstar Doja Cat, country music icons Kacey Musgraves and Dan + Shay, Gorillaz, Gary Clark Jr., Nikki Glaser, Fred Armisen, Craig Ferguson, Galantis, and the one and only Jeff Goldblum’s orchestra (yes, you read that right).

However, nothing says spooky season quite like hard rock and heavy metal, and for those who like to drown out the screams of horror with insane riffs, blast beats, and more screaming, Denver has it covered. Get in the Halloween spirit with performances all month long by The Smashing Pumpkins, Movements, Sleeping With Sirens, Arch Enemy and The Black Dahlia Murder, In This Moment, Mastadon, Skillet, Switchfoot, Pain Of Truth, Drowning Pool and Saliva, Holywatr, and SiM, among many others.

Halloween-themed events

The 303 does Halloween bigger than anyone else, and there are more opportunities than ever before this year to test one's bravery and courage. Notable Halloween experiences include the return of Elitch Gardens’ Fright Fest, BOOnion Station, Ghosts in the Gardens at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the annual South Broadway Halloween Parade along South Broadway.

For those looking for the ultimate thrills and chills, some of Colorado’s most frightening haunted houses are within walking distance of RTD stops and stations, including 13th Floor, The Ritual, and the Reinke Brothers Haunted Mansion.
