RTD employee aids pedestrian hit by vehicle

On April 26, what was supposed to be a routine day on the job for Ramonn Gullatt, a supervisor for the Commuter Rail Signals team at RTD who began in June 2021, ended up becoming the day he became a hero.

Gullatt was returning to his office at the Commuter Rail Maintenance-of-Way facility at East 72nd Avenue and Brighton Boulevard after meeting with the signal maintainers team in the field. As he was driving on Steele Street, something caught his eye. A passerby was waving him down trying to get his attention. Gullatt found a spot to turn his vehicle around and returned to the person waving at him to see what was going on. As he got closer, he noticed a person was lying in the ditch along the side of the road.

Soon after arriving to the scene, Gullatt learned that the person in the ditch was struck by a vehicle and needed immediate medical attention. He contacted emergency services and stayed at the location until help arrived, providing updates to authorities while waiting. Help arrived and took the victim to the hospital.

RTD Senior Manager, Safety, Security and Compliance Martha Bembry commended Gullatt’s actions saying “His willingness to help a stranger is a sample of how RTD employees step up when needed in an emergency.”
