RTD: Rad Things (to) Do - February 2023
Buses and trains aren’t only for commuting back and forth between the house and the office, but also offer an easy way to get to concerts, sporting events, theatrical performances and much, much more.
Check out some of the rad things to do around the district this month that are accessible via RTD services!
Theatrical shows, concerts and live performances
Some cold weather and snow are not going to stop Denverites from enjoying the arts. Here are some great shows and concerts taking place this month. As there are many different venues around the city, this section will only focus on major venues accessible via RTD services.
Denver Performing Arts Complex
The Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC), steps away from the downtown Loop, is firing on all cylinders, bringing to Denver world-famous productions for theater buffs to enjoy. Productions this month at DPAC include “Stomp” at the Buell Theatre, “Laughs in Spanish” at the Singleton Theatre, “The Secret Comedy of Women – Girls Only” at the Garner Galleria Theatre, “Hotter Than Egypt” at the Kilstrom Theatre, and Colorado New Play Summit at the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex. Mission Ballroom
The Mission Ballroom is the place to be for big name concerts, especially in the winter months. Just a short walk from the 38th●Blake Station, the Mission Ballroom is easily accessible via the A Line. This month is packed full of great music acts from Excision (dubstep), J.I.D. (hip-hop), Noah Kahan (folk-pop), Tove Lo (pop), The Roots (hip-hop/jazz), The Movement (reggae) and Riley Green (country). Check the Mission Ballroom’s website for dates and tickets.
Ogden Theatre
The best part about the Ogden Theatre, besides hosting some truly massive national and international acts, is that it is steps away from a Route 15 bus stop (at Colfax Avenue and Emerson Street).
There is no shortage of live music happening this month at the Ogden. Notable acts include Magic City Hippies (alternative pop), SunSquabi (dance), Yotto (dance), Sunny Day Real Estate (emo rock), Jerry Harrison (indie) and Adrian Belew (industrial rock). Paramount Theatre
In the heart of downtown Denver lies the historic Paramount Theatre, just steps away from the 16th Street Mall. At the Paramount this month, concertgoers can see Dan Cummins (comedian), The Gilmour Project (psychedelic rock), Phil Rosenthal (comedian), Our Planet (symphony orchestra), Yuridia (Latin pop), Felipe Esparza (comedian) and Styx (rock). Summit Music Hall
Summit Music Hall — at the corner of Blake Street and 19th Street, just a short walk from Union Station — is Denver’s home of rock, metal and punk. Summit does not cater to just those genres, though, as acts from any genre can be found any night at the venue. This month, after the venue was closed all of January for renovations, concertgoers can rock out to performances from We Came As Romans (metal), Fit For A King (metal), Ari Lennox (rhythm and blues) and Bon Entendeur (dance). Sports
February is the perfect time for Denver sports fans to catch a game or two. Check the Colorado Avalanche, Mammoth and Denver Nuggets’ schedules for game information and catch any E or W line from Union Station for an easy trip straight to the doors of Ball Arena. Don’t forget college sports as well, with the University of Denver’s men’s hockey team reachable via the E and H lines at University Station, and the University of Colorado’s men’s and women’s basketball teams via a trip on the Flatiron Flyer. Aside from traditional sports, there are a number of niche sports to check out as well, such as the 2023 USA Curling National Championships at the Denver Coliseum, happening now through Saturday, Feb. 11, and accessible via the N Line at 48th & Brighton●National Western Center Station. Speaking of the National Western Center, the future of supercross and motocross can be found battling it out there in the eighth round of the American Motocross Association’s Arenacross Championship on Feb. 10.
Looking for something the whole family can enjoy? Monster Jam returns to Ball Arena Friday through Sunday as the best monster truck drivers in the world face off in a showcase of skill and craziness as they fight for championship points. Feb. 16-18, watch the best high school wrestlers fight for the state championship at the Colorado High School Activities Association State Wrestling Championships at Ball Arena. Lastly, keep an eye out for a number of Valentine's Day 5K runs throughout the metro area.
