FAMLI program enrollment is now open
On Jan. 1, the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program went into effect. This program provides Colorado employees with paid time off when they face life circumstances that pull them away from their jobs. RTD has voted to opt out of the FAMLI program and does not currently offer a paid family and medical leave plan. However, employees can participate in the state’s FAMLI program as an individual.
Covered workers may receive up to 12 weeks of leave per year to:
- Care for a child after birth, adoption or foster care placement
- Care for themselves due to a serious health condition
- Care for a family member with a serious health condition
- Make arrangements for a family member’s military deployment
- Address immediate safety needs of domestic violence and/or sexual assault
Employees who experience pregnancy or childbirth complications may receive an additional four weeks of leave.
Employees wishing to participate in the program must inform RTD of their participation to ensure that premiums are deducted from each paycheck. The premium is .45% of an employee's wages. Once opted in, the employee must remain in the program for three years, and premiums must be paid for at least one calendar quarter before benefits are paid.
