8-mile ride with Colorado History Rides, DRCOG, and RTD showcased Arvada transportation history

Colorado History Rides, the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), and RTD held a community bike ride on Friday, June 12, to promote bicycling and transit travel. The group convened at Clear Creek•Federal Station, which is served by the G Line and Route 31. From there, participants traveled Clear Creek and Ralston Creek trails to local destinations in Arvada, including Gold Strike Park and Olde Town Arvada. The 8-mile ride concluded at Wheat Ridge•Ward Station.

Throughout the ride, Colorado History Rides’ founder and ride leader, Loren Hansen, shared historical facts about Arvada and its transportation evolution, from horse-drawn buggies to streetcars to commuter rail.

The G Line History Ride was the second collaboration between RTD and Colorado History Rides, a nonprofit organization focused on creating community through bicycling and a love of history. In 2024, the organizations led a Transit History Ride that rolled through downtown Denver, with stops including the Denver Tramway Powerhouse (REI) and Denver Union Station.

Speaking to their interest in partnering with RTD, Hansen said "Seeing Colorado history by public transportation, including RTD, is a great way to leave the car at home. With the G line ride, you get to see the early mining history all the way to the recent car-free streets of Olde Town Arvada.”
