New bikeway overpass bridge installed over 63rd Street median on CO 119
On Friday, July 10, Colorado Department of Transportation crews installed a 50-ton bridge that will serve as a bikeway overpass over the 63rd Street median between the northbound and southbound directions of the CO 119/Diagonal Highway. The bridge is part of the CO 119 Safety, Mobility, and Bikeway Project taking place between Boulder and Longmont.
The new overpass will provide a safe crossing for bicyclists and pedestrians over 63rd Street, enhancing access to the CO 119 bikeway and RTD’s new Park-n-Ride. It will also strengthen connections to the future CO 119 BRT service between Boulder and Longmont.
While these are exciting milestones for the project, please remember to keep out of the active construction zone and follow pedestrian and cyclist access paths, as well as speed limits.
CDOT plans to temporarily close the 63rd Street median on Friday, July 17, 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. to all modes of transportation as crews pour the concrete deck for the newly installed bridge.
During the closure, 63rd Street and CO 119 will be configured as a right-in-right-out intersection. There will be one signed detour route for motorists and cyclists.
Detour:
- Northbound 63rd Street travelers: Turn right onto northbound CO 119, turn left at Colorado Highway 52, and turn left onto southbound CO 119 to return to 63rd Street
- Southbound 63rd Street travelers: Turn right onto southbound CO 119, turn left onto Jay Road and turn left onto northbound CO 119 to return to 63rd Street.
The 50-ton 63rd Street bicycle/pedestrian bridge was installed Friday, July 10.
