Nine Mile Pedestrian Bridge construction officially underway

Construction is officially underway on a new pedestrian bridge that will make it safer and easier for customers to access RTD’s Nine Mile Station and connect with the surrounding Aurora community.

The City of Aurora, RTD, JHL Constructors, and community partners gathered Sept. 29 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Nine Mile Pedestrian Bridge, which will span Parker Road near I-225. Once complete, the bridge will provide a dedicated crossing between the station and homes, businesses, and other destinations north of Parker Road.

The new connection will make it easier for people walking, biking, and using transit to cross one of the region’s busiest corridors, and improve access to RTD’s regional transportation network while supporting safer multimodal travel in the area.

The $9.3 million project is expected to be completed in fall 2027. Initial construction activities began in September, with major bridge construction expected to begin in spring 2027. The bridge structure is scheduled to be installed in summer 2027.

The project also includes integrated artistic elements inspired by Aurora’s prairie landscape and diverse community. The design incorporates community input gathered during outreach in 2021, including a color palette and multilingual elements that reflect the character of the surrounding area.
