“Route 15” brings RTD’s role as a community connector to the stage
Every day, RTD connects people to work, school, family, essential services and opportunities across the Denver metro area. Along East Colfax Avenue, the 15 and 15L routes provide important access to destinations throughout one of the region’s most diverse and vibrant corridors.
This September, that familiar journey will take center stage.
RTD’s Civil Rights Division (CRD) is proud to support Roshni Healing Arts Sanctuary’s production of Route 15. The immersive theater experience draws inspiration from people, stories, and experiences along East Colfax and offers a creative look at the role transit can play in everyday lives.
Meet Roshni Healing Arts Sanctuary
Roshni Healing Arts Sanctuary is an Aurora-based nonprofit arts and community organization located along the East Colfax corridor. “Roshni” means “light,” reflecting the organization’s mission to use the arts as a source of healing, understanding, and empowerment.
Through theater, dance, music, visual arts, storytelling, workshops, and community programming, Roshni creates spaces for people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and lived experiences to share their stories in their own voices.
Its East Colfax location is central to that work. The corridor is home to many cultures, languages, and experiences and is served by RTD’s 15 and 15L routes. Roshni draws inspiration from the surrounding community, creating opportunities for its stories and experiences to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
That work comes to life in “Route 15,” an immersive theater production inspired by real-life stories from the communities Roshni serves.
More than a bus ride
At the center of “Route 15” is something immediately recognizable to RTD customers and employees: the 15 and 15L buses traveling along East Colfax.
In the production, the bus is more than a setting—it becomes a character of its own.
Roshni describes the bus as a “chariot to a new life,” representing the many places a transit journey can lead. Each character boards with a different destination, story, and perspective. As the ride unfolds, their individual journeys intersect.
It is a creative reflection of RTD’s purpose: We make lives better through connections.
On any given day, the 15 and 15L carry people to work, school, businesses, appointments, family, and other important destinations. Customers may come from different neighborhoods, cultures, and walks of life, but for a portion of their day, the bus becomes a space they share.
“Route 15” explores what can happen within that shared journey.
A story of connection, resilience, and hope
The production follows individuals from different backgrounds, each bringing their own experiences, aspirations, and perspectives aboard. While some characters’ personal stories explore complex life circumstances, the production is ultimately centered on resilience, compassion, healing, kindness, and hope.
The bus serves as the thread that brings these individual stories together. Characters board and exit at different points, but their time together creates moments of understanding and reminds audiences that there is often more to the people than what is seen.
Through the production, an ordinary bus ride becomes an invitation to consider the people behind each journey.
The “chariot to a new life” represents that possibility. At the other end of a ride might be a new opportunity, an important appointment, time with family, a meaningful experience or simply the next chapter of someone’s day.
Ultimately, “Route 15” celebrates the idea that people can have very different stories and destinations while still sharing meaningful moments along the way.
Experience “Route 15”
Take a seat. Meet your fellow customers. “Route 15” transforms a familiar ride along East Colfax into an immersive theater experience where the journey is just as meaningful as the destination. Inspired by real-life stories from the communities Roshni Healing Arts Sanctuary serves, the production brings together theater, dance, music, comedy and storytelling to reveal the humanity, resilience and hope carried within our communities every day.
With the 15 and 15L as familiar connections along the corridor, “Route 15” invites audiences to see East Colfax—and one another—through a different lens. Each character brings a story. Each stop adds to the journey. And together, those individual experiences become a celebration of connection, possibility and shared humanity.
