Major work on Central I-70 begins soon
RTD’s partner, the Colorado Department of Transportation, is doing some major work on one of the main thoroughfares in Denver: Central I-70. The state agency will be starting major construction this month, including:
Mile High Shift (May 24) – Shifting all six lanes of I-70 traffic from the viaduct to the future westbound lanes of I-70 in the lowered section of the project, between Brighton and Colorado boulevards. Prior to this traffic shift, a full weekend closure of I-70 from Washington Street to I-270 will be required to prepare traffic for this new alignment.
Viaduct demolition (May 21 - Fall 2021) – The 57-year-old viaduct between Brighton and Colorado boulevards will be demolished to make space to build the future eastbound lanes of the lowered section of I-70 and 46th South Avenue.
