Rad Things (to) Do - October 2025
There is just something special about October in Colorado. From the dramatic fall colors of the aspen trees painting the slopes of the mountains to the nip of the cool autumn breeze to the first snows of the season christening the mountaintops that rise over the Front Range, there truly is nothing quite like being a Denverite or Boulderite living in Colorado during October.
Okay, enough of the nature talk. Let’s get down to brass tacks. It’s the month of the sports equinox. All five major professional sports leagues, as well as college football, are fully underway in some capacity in October, and there are not many American cities in this country that embrace sports more than Denver does. It’s the month to get rowdy, loud and proud because a month like this only comes once a year.
Speaking of loud, this October’s concert slate is more loaded than a trick-or-treater stocking up on candy in Cherry Creek, all headlined by the one, the only Paul McCartney at Coors Field.
Of course, October also means Halloween, and, much like the sports scene in Denver during the month, experiencing Halloween in Denver is something every spooky season enjoyer must do at least once in their life. Between zombie crawls, parades and world-class haunted houses, Denver knows how to bring the chills and terror.
There’s no time to waste. Grab an RTD Day Pass and get ready for an unforgettable month of Rad Things (to) Do.

Tickets and event information: https://www.nba.com/nuggets
Well, the Denver Nuggets’ 2024-2025 season was certainly something. Last season can be best described as a daytime soap opera about basketball directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It first started with the sudden and unexpected sacking of former head coach Michael Malone, who led the Nuggets to their first-ever NBA Championship in 2023, and Denver Nuggets General Manager Calvin Booth simultaneously with only three games left in the regular season, nonetheless a season where they secured the No. 4 seed in the 2024-2025 NBA playoffs. Sure, the team had a noticeable skid during the second half of the season, but the firing of Coach Malone right as the team was about to enter the playoffs sent the city into a state of utter shock and disbelief. Then, during the NBA free agency window in the offseason, the Nuggets made a bold move to trade Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson while picking up career journeymen Jonas Valančiūnas, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown via trades and free agency signings in the process. However, the rollercoaster ride went from a high back down to a low when it was announced Nuggets superstar big man and horse enthusiast Nikola Jokic declined a contract extension worth $207 million to remain with the Nuggets after his contract expires at the end of this coming season, opening up the possibility of a larger contract with the Nuggets, but also allows for other teams to open up their checkbooks and entice the Serbian supercenter away from the Nuggets.
All that drama and uncertainty will lead to what is shaping up to be a pivotal season for the future of the Denver Nuggets. Will they flourish with their new offseason acquisitions and return the Larry O’Brien trophy to its rightful home in Denver, or will the team have another disappointing exit from the playoffs (or miss them entirely) and see their superstar center saddle up on his horses and head for greener pastures?
Either way, the Nuggets need the fans to pack the Ball Arena for their home opener against Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns and help the boys get off to a good start and build momentum as they trudge through the 82-game gauntlet that is the NBA regular season.

Eerie events and spooky spots
While the scent of pumpkin spiced lattes fills the air of literally every single coffee shop across the metro area, complementing the yellowing of the trees and crisping of the air are staples of a Colorado October, everyone knows the real fun happens when the sun goes down.
When it comes to embracing the Halloween season, no other city in the United States celebrates spooky season quite like Denver. Home to two of America’s most notoriously terrifying haunted houses, a creep-tacular stroll down Broadway, a ghastly transformation of Colorado’s largest theme park, dozens of Halloween bar crawls and the yearly zombie apocalypse on 16th Street, it’s safe to say that once the October sun goes down, things get real spooky.
Looking for some Halloween plans in October? RTD has you covered! Take the train to Elitch Gardens for Fright Fest and experience twice the screams for the price of admission. For those who prefer to enjoy Halloween without an increased heart rate, head down to Broadway Oct. 25 for the annual Broadway Halloween Parade or take a stroll through the Denver Botanic Gardens Oct. 21-26 as the gardens get their own spooky season makeover.
However, for those who are looking for a real scare can find themselves entering the 13th Floor Haunted House, steps away from stops served by the Route 48, and learn for yourself why it was rated by USA Today as one of the most terrifying haunted houses in the entire country. Abandon all hope, ye who enter.
Scroll down to learn more about some of the fun ways to celebrate the spooky season, steps away from RTD stops and stations!

Sports
Yeah, sure, Andy Williams’ classic “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” might be a song played during the holiday season ad nauseum every year, but, for the author of Rad Things (to) Do and likely millions of other sports-obsessed sickos, October truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Eat your heart out, Christmas.
In October, both the NFL and college football are in full swing, the NHL and NBA get their regular seasons underway, Major League Soccer gets serious during its final month of the regular season, and the MLB postseason begins for the seventh consecutive year with the phrase “Rocktober” being mentioned more in reruns of a South Park episode than being referred to the Rockies in the postseason.
Yep, October truly is the sports equinox where every single American professional sports league is underway in some capacity. It’s enough to bring a tear to the author’s eye… and more tears will certainly be coming soon if the Denver Broncos don’t get it together and figure out how to close out close games. Let’s not mention what’s happening at the college level up in Boulder. Over at the Ball Arena, both the Avalanche and Nuggets get things going in an attempt to redeem themselves for disappointing early exits from their respective playoff series last season. In Commerce City at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, the Colorado Rapids are in an all-out war against FC Dallas and San Jose to stay above the cutline and secure a spot in the MLS playoffs. With just two points separating the three teams, the stakes for the Rapids have never been higher.
--
Author’s note: Now, I’m going to break the fourth wall here for a bit. Usually, this is where I would continue my October Rad Things (to) Do tradition of taking one last cheap shot at the Rockies. Instead, I’m taking author’s privilege to come clean a bit and provide some positivity for once instead of corny jokes. The truth is, I like the Rockies, even as a lifelong Texas Rangers fan (ahh, transplant!) and I think the fans deserve a team that brings the same energy every single game that the fans do. What other franchise in America continues to set attendance records for a team that has been a perennial dud and the laughingstock of their league for the better part of a decade? A great fanbase that has been through hell and back for their clubhouse year over year who undeniably has one of the most scenic and iconic ballparks in the world deserves to have their club return the favor, at least once. As a diehard Texas Rangers fan of over 30 years, growing up going to the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington dozens of times, I know the disappointment of supporting a team that will inevitably drop 100 games and miss the postseason in spectacular fashion. I’m rooting for you, Rockies fans, and know that I make these jokes not to make fun of the fans, but as a critique of the product on the diamond. Rocktober will come again, Rockies fans.
Now, back to the fun stuff.

Even in the mountains, the snow guns at the resorts are starting to wake up, with Copper Mountain already making snow to open the United States Ski Team Training Center as early as possible, giving the U.S. Ski Team as early of a start as possible for training camp before they enter the FIS World Cup season.
October rules. Now, gear up and get out there and support the home teams all month long! From professional to college sports, RTD will proudly help Denver fans get to the games. Check out this month’s home slate below and celebrate the greatest month on the calendar.

Live theatre and musicals
Kudos to the teams at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC) for securing one of the most loaded schedules since Rad Things (to) Do was introduced. From a dramatic live adaptation of the 1955 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” to Bran Stoker’s legendary “Dracula” reimagined into dance by the Colorado Ballet, as well as the “corn”-iest Tony Award-winning musical comedy to grace the Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre with “Shucked,” all capped off by what has been hailed as “the world’s No. 1 musical” that earned Disney’s “The Lion King” six Tony Awards, there is no reason not to enjoy a night out at the DPAC.
Don’t forget that light rail service to the Theatre District•Convention Center Station is currently suspended due to the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, but many transit options remain to make getting to and from the DPAC a breeze.

Concerts
To quote a fake quote ripped straight from a popular meme of the late Martin Scorcese, this month’s concert slate is “absolute cinema.” And yes, concerts can be cinema, as the legendary hard rock band Creed demonstrated during the 2001 NFL Thanksgiving Game between the Dallas Cowboys and THE Denver Broncos at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas. Oh, and don’t forget that the Broncos won that game 26-24. It really doesn’t get more cinematic than that. Go Broncos!
Headlined by none other than the great Paul McCartney at Coors Field Oct. 11, this month’s concert slate features a who’s who of big names and up-and-comers across virtually every genre of music. Notable artists and bands performing throughout the metro this month include pop punk royalty The Story So Far, Gen Z pop sensation Addison Rae, deathcore maestros Lorna Shore, GRAMMY Award-winning hip-hop wonderkid Chance The Rapper, metalcore pioneers Blessthefall, alternative/indie powerhouse Matt Maeson, and the long-awaited return of the beloved Canadian EDM duo Purity Ring, just to name a few.
For those who prefer their concerts to replace music with actual comedy and not what the author of Rad Things (to) Do attempts to do in this series every month, plenty of comedians will be performing stand-up this month, most notably from Iliza Shlesinger and the Golden Girls, who will be performing at the Bellco Theater and Paramount Theatre, respectfully.
Last, but most certainly not least, for those who prefer their concerts performed by a live orchestra, even more for those who love video games, the Colorado Symphony has it covered. Embracing the spirit of Halloween, the Colorado Symphony will be performing a Halloween Spooktacular, followed by a collaboration with Disney to perform the music of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” For the gamers out there, enjoy an auditory trip to the world of the Continent and relive the journey of Geralt of Rivia when The Witcher in Concert is performed at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House later this month.
Check out this month’s loaded slate of concerts and musical performances below and enjoy an action-packed October full of music.

Paul McCartney - "Maybe I'm Amazed"
There's not much more than can be said about one of music's most important artists, Paul McCartney. Head to Coors Field Oct. 11 for this once-in-a-lifetime concert event.
The Story So Far - "Letterman"
If there was ever a Mt. Rushmore of pop punk, The Story So Far would be on it. For almost 15 years, The Story So Far has been one of pop punk's most beloved and prolific bands. Tonight, they bring UK pop punk royalty, Neck Deep, to the Mission Ballroom for a night of tear-filled moshing. Flannel mandatory.
Purity Ring - "place of my own"
Canadian electro-pop duo Purity Ring finally makes their long-awaited return from hiatus, and they're heading to the Mission Oct. 21 for their first appearance in Denver since the 2010s.
Lecrae - "Headphones" feat. Killer Mike and T.I.
Christian hip-hop mogul, Lecrae, has spent much of his career breaking down barriers and collaborating with some of hip-hop's most powerful rappers, shattering stereotypes and dropping absolute bangers in the process. Head to the Ogden Oct. 16 to see Lecrae in action.
Voilà - "Figure You Out"
Alternative duo Voilà has been stealing hearts and girlfriends since the late-2010s. This talented multinational duo's unique take on alternative has quickly made them a favorite in the scene. See them at the Marquis Oct. 17. Dudes, leave your girlfriends at home for this one.
Koyo - "Life's A Pill"
New York City-based hardcore-influenced punk rock band, Koyo, has quickly become the heart and soul of the modern resurgence of the punk rock scene. Taking strong influences from the hardcore scene, Koyo has carved out a niche for themselves in an already niche subgenre. They'll be shutting down the Marquis on Halloween.
Galactic Empire - "Duel Of The Fates"
What happens when you give a bunch of Star Wars-obsessed musicians a guitar and creative freedom to do whatever they want? Well, you get Galactic Empire, who will be performing metal renditions of some of the most iconic soundtracks from the Star Wars franchise at the newly-renovated Federal Theatre Oct. 24.
Don Broco - "Dissapear"
Wraparound shades, mullets, Jheri Curls, comically-strong jawlines and a knack for being completely unserious has allowed the British four-piece hard rock band Don Broco to quickly become one of rock's most energetic and ridiculously fun bands. On Oct. 21, Don Broco aims to show America exactly how they get down across the pond in this must-attend show.
