RTD celebrates 20 operators graduating from training program
RTD is celebrating 20 individuals who have graduated from RTD’s training programs, seven as light rail operators and 13 as bus operators. The 12-week program familiarizes trainees with protocols, procedures, and equipment, and provides hands-on experience with route familiarization and night driving. In 2024, RTD extended the program from nine weeks to 12, to ensure trainees are prepared to navigate the flow of operations and customer interactions.
RTD is dedicated to supporting its employees and fostering their success through competitive pay and benefits along with training and professional development opportunities provided by or paid by RTD. This commitment helps employee performance and creates a welcoming transit environment for employees, customers and community.
Candidates hired as bus operators receive a $4,000 signing bonus, paid training—including CDL training—and guidance through the permit process. Bus and train operators start at $25.96 per hour, and the roles offers individuals a career path to retire from or pursue as a second career. To learn more about all RTD careers, please visit the careers webpage or to learn about bus operator opportunities, attend the upcoming bus operator career fair on May 30.
